MEDWAY – The Board of Selectmen will meet Monday to vote on a final contract for a $25,000 loan to a local snowmobile wclub to cover purchase and repair costs associated with a new trail groomer.
As part of the agreement, the East Branch Sno’ Rovers snowmobile club in East Millinocket and Medway, which has its clubhouse at the end of Hathaway Road, will have the account with the town that it can draw from when it needs the money, said David Dickey, chairman of the Board of Selectmen.
“It was voted upon at the town meeting,” Dickey said Friday. “We’re just voting on the language of the contract.”
One of the maintainers of Interstate Trail System 83, one of the main snowmobile conduits through the Katahdin region, the club helps the town’s businesses draw the thousands of snowmobilers who come to the area in wintertime.
Club President David Violette, Vice President Shawn Bouchard and Secretary Jane McLaughlin did not return telephone messages seeking comment Friday.
In other news, the town has purchased a 19-foot covered wagon formerly used in Millinocket for town events and fundraisers. Known as the Trolley, the wagon was sold by owner Lisa Hayes for $2,100.
