BREWER – Local police nabbed two men for drunken driving Saturday night at an accident scene on Route 15 near the Orrington town line.
Marc Smith, 43, of Orrington and Clifford Alley, 51, of Prospect were charged with operating while under the influence of intoxicants in separate incidents at the same location, according to Brewer police.
Smith was driving south on Route 15 about 8:20 p.m. when the silver Saturn he was driving crossed the center line and struck head-on a 2000 silver Camry driven by Carolyn Frank, 19, of Ellsworth.
An axle and tire separated from one of the vehicles and was sitting in the road, according to police, so additional officers were called in to help direct traffic until Route 15 could be cleared.
Alley, who was southbound on his motorcycle, reportedly was ordered to pull over after he nearly struck an officer who was directing traffic.
Neither Frank nor her passenger, Jonathan Feero, 18, of Ellsworth, was injured in the accident.
Smith complained of wrist pain but was not transported to a hospital, according to police.
Estimates on the damage to the vehicles was not available Sunday.
Police described Smith’s blood alcohol level as more than two times the legal limit and Alley’s as well above the legal limit.
Both men were taken to Penobscot County Jail and made bail late Saturday night, according to jail personnel.
Smith and Alley are scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Sept. 18.
