Bangor woman is arrested, charged with arson of vehicle

A Bangor woman was arrested late Saturday and charged with arson after she allegedly set fire to a car at a Union Street apartment complex.

Eliza M. Thornley was being held Sunday on $10,000 bail on charges of arson and criminal mischief. She is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court today.

According to Bangor police, the victim did not know Thornley, who was sentenced to five days in the Penobscot County Jail earlier this year for criminal mischief.

A juvenile reported that he was assaulted and robbed in downtown Bangor on Saturday afternoon.

The 17-year-old male said that he was sitting on a bench in Hannibal Hamlin Park over the Kenduskeag Stream about 1:30 p.m. when two unknown males approached him.

The victim told Bangor police that one of them punched him and stole his backpack.

Bangor police Sunday said they were not releasing descriptions of the suspects or information about what allegedly was stolen. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
