PORTLAND, Maine – The coach of Deering High School’s championship baseball team has reportedly resigned.
WGME-TV in Portland says former University of Maine pitcher Mike D’Andrea is stepping down little more than a week after three assistants were fired amid allegations of underage drinking at a victory party for the team in June.
Among those fired was D’Andrea’s son, Michael D’Andrea Jr.
WGME said the elder D’Andrea is reportedly upset with how the situation was handled and has decided to pursue other opportunities.
D’Andrea also is coach of Deering’s girls basketball team, but there’s no word on whether he will keep that job.
