UMFK in Princeton Review for fourth year

FORT KENT – Who says you have to stop at a threepeat?

Not officials at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, who again are celebrating a “Best Northeastern College” ranking for 2009 by the Princeton Review. This is the fourth consecutive year that UMFK has been designated among the top schools in the 11-state region.

UMFK is one of 212 outstanding colleges and universities in the Northeast that The Princeton Review recommends to college applicants in the 2009 edition of its book, “Best Northeastern Colleges.” The colleges and universities selected are located in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the District of Columbia.

The Princeton Review surveyed students at the 212 colleges and universities included in its 2009 edition. The 80-question survey asked students to rate their schools in several categories, from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food, and to answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and campus life.

UMFK President Richard W. Cost said Tuesday the university was pleased to receive the designation.

“We are thrilled because this is an affirmation of what we are trying to do here, and it shows that we are doing the best we can to offer the best education to our students,” he said.

Cost said UMFK officials have constantly enhanced the university and campus community, which he believes has helped UMFK keep its place on the list.

“Four years ago we added a student success coordinator and have been adding more and more programs to reach out to students,” he said.

The Princeton Review is a New York-based company known for its test preparation, college admission and other education services. It is not affiliated with Princeton University and it is not a magazine.
