Governors raise funds for Blaine House

AUGUSTA – Gov. John Baldacci and four former Maine governors joined together in celebrating and raising money for the Blaine House, the official residence of the governor.

The five past and present governors came together Friday night at an invitation-only dinner at the State House to benefit the Friends of the Blaine House, a nonprofit group committed to preserving the mansion.

Former governors who were on hand were John Reed, who served 1959-1967; Joseph Brennan, 1979-1987; John McKernan, 1987-1995; and Angus King, 1995-2003. The only living governor who was absent was Ken Curtis, who served in the years 1967-1975 and now resides in Florida.

The dinner was part of a two-day celebration of the mansion’s 175th anniversary.
