BANGOR – Maine Attorney General Steven Rowe and Maine House Majority Whip Sean Faircloth were the featured speakers at a special “convention countdown meeting” Saturday morning at presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters in downtown Bangor. About 40 area Democrats attended the event, according to communications director Jessica Santillo.

With less than two weeks remaining before the Democratic National Convention in Denver, the Obama campaign is urging supporters to host or attend neighborhood house parties to watch their candidate accept the presidential nomination. Volunteers also will step up door-to-door canvassing and voter registration drives, especially in the days immediately after the convention.

Filling out a voter registration form requires individuals to supply either their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number, Santillo said.

A nationwide “weekend of action” has been declared for Aug. 29-31 to encourage Obama supporters to become more active in their communities.

More information about registering to vote is available online at www.vote411.org or by calling local municipal offices.
