ROCKPORT – Maine Farmland Trust and Aldermere Farm of Maine Coast Heritage Trust are organizing a community celebration at the Erickson Farm property for Wednesday evening, Aug. 20.
The 93-acre Erickson Farm is set to be transferred to Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
“We are inviting the whole community to come celebrate the preservation of this working farm,” said John Piotti, executive director of Maine Farmland Trust. “This is Maine Farmland Trust’s first project in the midcoast region, and its success is due to the amazing response from the community.
“More than 350 families and businesses have contributed so far, and we are very close to our $1.1 million campaign goal,” Piotti said.
The celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until dark. Families are asked to bring a Maine dish to share potluck-style as well as their own dishes, and blanket to sit on (some chairs will be available). Local musicians will provide entertainment. Many activities are planned for children. Parking is in the Erickson Farm field. Signs will be posted a half-mile from Route 1 on Route 90.
Donations are still being accepted to help the campaign meet the final $50,000 challenge. For information, contact Cate Cronin at 542-2665 or Maine Farmland Trust, 97 Main St., Belfast, at 338-6575.
