HOULTON – The Friends and Needles Quilt Guild will hold its annual quilt show 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22 and 23, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Houlton Lodge of Elks, Main Street. The theme of the show is “Mother Earth and Her Season.” Admission is $4.

The show will feature the color of season through the magic of fabric.

Special guest at the show will be Sieglinde Schoen-Smith of Carlisle, Pa., an award-winning quilter and author-illustrator of “Mother Earth and Her Children: A Quilted Fairy Tale.” She will show her award-winning quilt, and copies of her book will be available for purchase.

An exhibit at the show will showcase the work of Arline Dickison and Aileen Smith, charter members of the guild for 30 years.

A miniquilt silent auction will offer table runners, wall hangings and tote bags for bid.

A quilt called Kaleidoscope Blues will be raffled. Tickets are $1, six for $5. Raffle proceeds support the guild’s Linus Project program, an annual scholarship awarded to a Houlton Regional High School student, and other guild activities.

To date, the guild has given more than 500 quilts to children in need who live in members’ communities. Guild members also sent 50 quilts to Hurricane Katrina victims.

Each year the guild holds Make A Blanket Day at which more than 90 women and children get together to make quilts to stock the group’s Project Linus cupboard.

The guild, with more than 80 members from Caribou to Benedicta, meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, September-June, at St. Mary’s Church in Houlton. For more information, call Kim at 532-1550.
