There are lots of typical sounds to hear at a ballpark: The crack of the bat, the roar of a crowd, and the cries of vendors selling peanuts, soda, and hot dogs.
Anyone attending Sunday’s Portland Sea Dogs game at Hadlock Field heard some decidedly non-ballpark sounds if they stuck around afterward, including the Wedding March and other traditional wedding songs.
No, they didn’t take a wrong turn in downtown Portland. Hadlock hosted a wedding for a Yarmouth couple who won the Sea Dogs’ “Wedding at Hadlock Field” giveaway.
Carly Eller and Devin Ellis exchanged vows and rings right after Sunday afternoon’s 5-4 victory over Harrisburg as part of a special ceremony set up as part of the team’s promotional contest, which invited interested couples to submit a written answer to the question “Why do you want to be married at Hadlock Field?”
Carly Eller wrote to the Sea Dogs and her submission was picked as one of four finalists from a field of 100 entries. It became the winning choice after all four finalist entries were voted on by fans through ballpark and Internet voting.
The newlyweds, who are both originally from the state of Washington, also received 100 tickets to Sea Dogs games for friends and family, wedding bands, two JetBlue Airlines tickets, wedding photographs, and a limousine.
Eller, who was proposed to in April, explained in her entry that her fianc? will be deployed in the U.S. Navy in November for at least six months and the couple was trying to organize a creative and spontaneous wedding before his deployment.
That’s the ticket

Anderson E.L. Player of the Week
Portland Sea Dogs infielder Lars Anderson is the Eastern Leagues’ Player of the Week after hitting .476 with two home runs, six RBIs and nine runs scored last week.
The 20-year-old first baseman hit his second grand slam of the season Thursday to become the fourth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat. Anderson, ranked the No. 3 prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization by Baseball America, was promoted from Single-A Lancaster (Cal.) on July 16. He has at least one hit in 24 of the 28 games he’s played for Portland and is hitting .356 over that span with five homers and 23 RBIs.
Anderson is the fourth Sea Dogs player to be named E.L. Pitcher or Player of the Week this season.
