Bob Novak’s column “The Soldiers Voting Scandal” in GOPUSA, really caught my eye. It revealed that not one Democrat in the Democratic-controlled House signed the resolution introduced by Republican Roy Blunt of Missouri, demanding the Defense Department better enable our military personnel overseas to vote in the November elections.
We all know that this resolution will never be passed without some votes by Democrats.
I called Rep. Mike Michaud’s office to find out what was going on and after numerous calls and receiving nothing pertinent, I tried Rep. Tom Allen’s’ office which ended with the same results. Why are Democrat’s reluctant to allow our soldiers to vote? Not one single Democrat either signed or co-sponsored this important resolution.
How strange, Rep. Michaud with all his rhetoric about veteran’s affairs has not signed, let alone co-sponsor this resolution.
It’s a disgrace that only 5.5 percent of our Military around the world had their votes counted in the 2006 mid-term elections. There is no question that the refusal of Democrats to sign the resolution is denying our servicemen their constitutional rights. We know in the 2008 elections thousands of our servicemen who try to vote will do so in vain.
I am throwing the ball to both Reps. Michaud and Allen. I am waiting to see their response to this issue.
