AUGUSTA – Pat LaMarche says she’s quitting Evergreen Mountain Enterprises’ campaign for a casino in western Maine effective immediately.

LaMarche, who has run for Maine governor and U.S. vice president as a member of the Green party, cites “legal and professional issues” surrounding Seth Carey, founder of the Oxford County casino effort, in deciding to step down.

Earlier this month, the Board of Overseers of the Maine Bar directed its counsel to begin disciplinary action against Carey for misconduct.

LaMarche says she signed on with the casino initiative before Carey’s issues came to light.

LaMarche says she still thinks that a casino would be a good thing for Maine tourism and economic recovery.
