Bucksport schools set to open

BUCKSPORT – Opening day for kindergarten and grades will be Tuesday, Sept. 2. G.H. Jewett School hours for kindergarten are 8:20 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. Miles Lane School hours for grades one to four are 8:10 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.

New students should register between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. by Aug. 29. Call Miles Lane School at 469-6666 for grade one through four registration and the Jewett School at 469-6644 to register for kindergarten.

Kindergarten students and their families are invited to attend an open house from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27. Kindergarten immunization records must be complete in order to start school.

Information about transportation can be obtained from bus company First Student at 469-7673. Bus routes for the Bucksport School District will be printed in the Aug. 21 and Aug. 28 editions of The Enterprise and will be posted on the Bucksport school department Web site, www.bucksportschools.com.

Lunch and breakfast will be available on the first day of school for all Miles Lane and Jewett School students.

The first day of school at Bucksport Middle School, grades five to eight, also will be Tuesday, Sept. 2. School hours are 7:55 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students should arrive no earlier than 7:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available the first day of school in the dining room. There is no charge for breakfast for a student who qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Lunch at the middle school will cost $2.25 and reduced-price lunch will cost 40 cents.

There will be organizational meetings and practice for football and soccer on Monday, Aug. 25. Cross country will have its organizational meeting on Aug. 27. For information on specific meeting times, call Bucksport Middle School at 469-6647 and select menu option 4. All students are required to have a current physical form on file before the start of the first practice.

Bucksport High School will resume classes 7:50 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. Guidance counselors are now available to meet with parents or students. To schedule an appointment, which is recommended, call 469-6653.

School lunch is $2.25 and the reduced price is 40 cents.
