LEWISTON – When the Lewiston McDonald’s opened in 1966, there was no such thing as flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi setups for personal computers were an unknown concept.

But a redo of Maine’s third McDonald’s to be built will feature those as well as a bistro and more trappings of the new millennium.

The new restaurant will feature a brick exterior with a sleek design that only hints of the golden arches of yore. The interior will feature wood, tile and stone surfaces instead of plastic. There will be high tables and stools and a coffee bar. McCafe will offer specialty drinks such as lattes and mochas.

McDonald’s owner David Hamilton says Lewiston people deserve better than what’s being replaced.
