A Brewer police officer on his way to an accident Monday afternoon found himself needing assistance when his cruiser caught fire.

The officer was driving along Parkway South and was able to pull over to the side of the road. A short circuit somewhere in the car’s electrical system is believed to have caused the fire.

The officer, whose name isn’t being released, was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to Brewer police Sgt. Jay Munson. The officer was expected to recover. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN).

Dexter police are investigating break-ins at two residences over the weekend.

A Church Street homeowner reported to police on Saturday that someone had gained entry through a garage door and had taken a large red toolbox full of tools. There was no estimate of value given for the tools.

On Monday a local resident reported that someone had broken a window out of a rear door in an unoccupied Pleasant Street home and had taken $800 in copper tubing and fittings. (Diana Bowley, BDN)
