Anonymous tip leads to arrest Man, wanted on six outstanding warrants, had escaped twice before

BREWER – An anonymous tip Tuesday led to the arrest of a local man who owes more than $3,500 in fines and was wanted on six outstanding warrants.

Bruce Herbert, 32, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. by Brewer police Officer Amy Robinson at a house on Holyoke Street, Cpl. Paul Gauvin said Tuesday night. She was assisted by Cpl. Tony Pinette.

“This time he didn’t try to run,” Gauvin said.

Police released Herbert’s picture and information about him to the media in early August, about a week after he had gotten out of the car he was riding in and run away before the officer could turn around.

He then escaped out the back door of a home when his roommate was being arrested on an unrelated charge, according to a story published on Aug. 5 in the Bangor Daily News.

Herbert surrendered Tuesday without incident, Gauvin said, and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

He is expected to appear today in 3rd District Court in Bangor.

Herbert was not considered to be dangerous but was intent on not going to jail, police said.

He was wanted on the following charges: burglary, theft, failure to extinguish a fire, violation of bail conditions, disorderly conduct, and operating after suspension.

Herbert owes $3,670 in fines on previous convictions.
