Jovan Belcher, a senior defensive end at the University of Maine, has been named to the 2008 College Sporting News Preseason All-America first team.

The 6-foot-2, 228-pounder was one of nine Colonial Athletic Association players to be recognized. He also was the CAA’s Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was named a first-team All-American by The Sports Network.

The Black Bears open the season Saturday at Iowa.
