Brewer Youth Hockey

BREWER – It is time to sign up for Brewer Youth Hockey. Skaters have two options: Register for the season online at www.brewerhockey.org or show up for registration 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Penobscot Ice Arena.

Boys and girls may register for one of these categories:

. Learn-To-Skate (for new skaters), age 3 and up.

. Learn-To-Play and Atoms (introduction to ice hockey), age 5 and up.

. Mites, age 7 and 8.

. Squirts, age 9 and 10.

. Peewees, age 11 and 12.

. Bantams, age 13 and 14.

Skaters must register with USA Hockey before registering with Brewer Youth Hockey. Visit www.brewerhockey.org, click on the Membership link and follow the online instructions. A credit card is needed to process the national registration. The fee is $36 per skater for those age 6 and up.

After registering, either print the registration verification and bring it to a live registration event or continue the registration process online.

Those who have pre-registered are still required to complete the registration process. Registration fees are due in full at the time of registration, unless alternative payment plans have been made.

Travel try-out registration also will be held each evening. The cost is an additional $35 per skater. Try-outs are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, and Thursday, Sept. 18.

Coaching applications also will be available and accepted at the time of registration. The Brewer Youth Hockey board of directors will answer questions about the programs.

Brewer Youth Hockey, with the support of Dunkin’ Donuts of Brewer, is offering the Learn-To-Skate and Learn-To-Play hockey programs. The sessions will run on Sundays for 16 weeks, starting Oct. 26, for $99.

Blackbear United youth soccer tryouts

HERMON – Blackbear United offers youth soccer development, training and competitive teams for boys and girls U10-U19, and a youth academy for players ages 4-13.

Blackbear United is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and is affiliated with the SoccerMaine Youth Soccer Association. Blackbear United hosts tryouts each fall for teams.

The club begins training in December, then plays and trains December to March. The club competes outdoors in the SoccerMaine league in April and June and in the state cup in May and June, and players attend tournaments Memorial Day and Father’s Day weekends.

After the tryouts listed, Blackbear United will select teams to offer and assign coaching staff. Players should try out for their age groups. In the event that Blackbear United decides not field a team, players may be asked to move up.

The Blackbear staff will move players only if it is in the best interest of the player and club. Players who want to try out for an older team should attend both their age group and the one above.

. U10, U11 and U12 Boys and Girls, 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 13.

. U13 and U14 Boys and Girls, noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

. U17 and U18 Girls, 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

. U15 and U16 Boys and Girls 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

. U17 and U18 Boys, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

. U10, U11, U12 Boys and Girls, 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 27.

. U13, U14 Boys and Girls, noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

. U17 and U18 Girls, 9-10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.

. U15 and U16 Boys and Girls, 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.

. U17 and U18 Boys, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.

Players must be born between dates listed to be eligible for specific age group:

. U10: Aug. 1, 1998, to July 31, 1999.

. U11: Aug. 1, 1997, to July 31, 1998.

. U12: Aug. 1, 1996, to July 31, 1997.

. U13: Aug. 1. 1995, to July 31, 1996.

. U14: Aug. 1, 1994, to July 31, 1995.

. U15: Aug. 1, 1993, to July 31, 1994.

. U16: Aug. 1, 1992, to July 31, 1993.

. U17: Aug. 1, 1991, to July 31, 1992.

. U18: Aug. 1, 1990, to July 31, 1991.

Players trying out should pre-register and bring these items – soccer ball, water, shin guards, current photograph (1-inch by 1-inch passport size), copy of birth certificate (new players only), $25 tryout fee or pay online. Online payments include a $1 service fee.

Registration begins 30 minutes before tryout time. Fee covers tryouts for that season.
