BANGOR – Local police were still searching late Friday night for a 9-year-old girl who was reported missing earlier that afternoon. Haley Stratton was last seen at about 4 p.m. near her Clinton Street home.
She is described as about 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 62 pounds. Her eyes and hair are brown. She was wearing a red T-shirt, calf-length Capri jeans and sneakers. She may have been riding a silver and pink scooter with matching helmet, kneepads and elbow pads.
Haley is the daughter of Michael and Carmen Stratton of 20 Clinton St.
In an effort to alert as many area residents as possible, Bangor police contacted the Fort Lauderdale-based organization A Child Is Missing.
According to Sgt. Paul Kenison of the Bangor Police Department, the organization sent recorded phone messages at about 6 p.m. to approximately 2,000 households in the area around the Stratton home, describing the child and asking anyone with information to contact the department.
The message inaccurately called her Kaleigh, but police verified that her name is Haley.
When the initial round of calls failed to yield helpful information, a second round was sent at about 9:45 p.m. to more homes in a larger area, Kenison said. He said people have responded from as far away as Howland and Hermon, but no significant leads have emerged.
Anyone who may have seen Haley Stratton or who has other relevant information should contact the Bangor Police Department at 947-7384.
