BREWER — Classic cars and hands-on welding demonstrations will be on display at the New England School of Metalwork car show and welding demonstrations Saturday, Sept. 6, at Maine Oxy, 131 Robertson Blvd., rain or shine.

Gates open to the public at 7 a.m. and there is no admission fee. Welding demonstrations will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon, and festivities will wind down after the presentation of trophies for winning autos in several categories at 1 p.m.

“There will be trophies for best classic cars from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, plus special prizes for Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Truck, Best Street Rod, Best Foreign Vehicle and The Best in Show,” said Dan Guerin, president of Maine Oxy, the facility co-sponsoring the activities.

Based in Auburn, the New England School of Metalwork’s state-of-the-art mobile welding trailer also will be at the show and open to the public for tours, demonstrations and information on classes and workshops. From fundamentals and basic skills training to advanced tutoring for professionals, the New England School of Metalwork offers instruction in welding, blacksmithing, bladesmithing and various related disciplines in metalworking, both at its facilities in Auburn and on the road in Northern New England.

Proceeds from the show will be donated to Camp CaPella on Phillips Lake in Dedham, providing quality-of-life experiences for people with disabilities and their families.

Sponsors of this inaugural event include Maine Oxy, Hypertherm, Lincoln Electric and DJ Chad Hood.
