AUGUSTA – Maine’s latest biweekly survey indicates the average cash price of heating oil has dropped 2 cents a gallon and now stands at $3.98.
Dealer prices ranged from a low of $3.52 in southwestern Maine to a high of $4.20 in the eastern region.
John Kerry, director of the governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security, said Tuesday that much of the credit for the price drop goes to the nation’s drivers, who have cut down on their driving.
But he said many of the market dynamics that led to higher prices, including growing demand in rapidly developing countries, remain in place.
