The public is invited to witness knights in tournament and swashbuckling fencers fighting on the cliffs above the Penobscot River at the seventh annual Medieval Faire 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Fort Knox in Prospect.
Friends of Fort Knox and Maine members of the Society for Creative Anachronism invite spectators to travel back in history to learn a medieval dance, watch live demonstrations of medieval and Renaissance arts and sciences, shoot a crossbow and interact with area medievalists.
Activities for the day include a Pas d’Armes tournament of knightly combat, fencing, instrumental and vocal music, dance, demonstrations of society youth combat, combat archery, thrown weapons, a display of beautiful pavilions and activities for those of all ages to watch and try.

The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe and earlier.
Its “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms with more than 30,000 members in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts and more.
There are three official SCA groups in Maine: the Shire of Endewearde in central and western Maine; the Province of Malagentia in southern Maine; and the Shire of Smithwick in northern Maine. Representatives from all three groups will be at the event.
