Being able to read music or be an accomplished singer is not a requirement to join BCC, McKinnon said. “A love of singing and having fun are all that are needed.”

She wants interested individuals to know that BCC “has a 40-year history of performing in the greater Bangor community” and that its young conductor’s “choral and theatrical experiences have been applauded throughout New England, New York and Europe.”

McKinnon added that last year “talented pianist Colin Graebert joined the chorus as its accompanist.”

McKinnon pointed out that the 20-member mixed chorus is working “to increase its membership and urges former members to rejoin” along with newcomers.

Jane Pierce wrote the Brewer First Congregational Church will hold a Second Time Around Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the church, 35 Church St.

Recognizing that the current, high cost of fuel affects everyone, Pierce said that proceeds from the fundraiser would help with energy needs not only for the church but for members of the community as well.

Here is a reminder for folks in the Lamoine area that SANKEA, a local ladies’ group, will hold a benefit Spaghetti Supper and Silent Auction to help middle-school teammates Karla Butler and Brittany “Gidget” Handy raise funds for them and a chaperon to travel to Miami Gardens, Fla., for the FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2009.

The girls were named All-American Cheerleaders when they attended NCA cheerleading camp in July at Husson College in Bangor, which earned them the opportunity to appear before 70,000 football fans at Dolphin Stadium.

The supper and auction is 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lamoine Consolidated School. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.

Ann Carter reports the final supper of the summer to benefit the Charlotte Fire and Rescue Department and Auxiliary is 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Charlotte Fire Station on Ayers Junction Road, Route 214.

The meal features spaghetti with “sauces to satisfy every taste,” Carter wrote, toppings from sausage to meatballs, spices that are hot or mild, and bread, pies and cakes.

Leigh Butler invites you to the Second Congregational Church Fall Jamboree and Round Up, beginning with a morning worship service and then a barbecue and sing-along.
