BELFAST – Harbor Master Kathy Messier cautions boat owners that if coastal winds of 25 knots or higher from the southeast are predicted in Penobscot Bay at any time during this hurricane season, the city will be pulling docks without notice.

“Right now I’m keeping my eye on Hanna,” Messier said. “It’s supposed to hit this weekend and they are predicting strong winds out of the southeast. A lot of our docks are exposed in those type of winds, especially the dinghy docks and those on the outer face of the breakwater.”

Vessel owners will be responsible for removing their vessels, including dinghies. The responsibility of vessel safety and security always stays with the owner of the vessel, Messier said.
