A Bangor man driving a motorcycle alone on Pierce Road in Brewer was severely injured Thursday evening when his bike went off the roadway and he struck a telephone pole.

“The injuries were serious and significant,” Brewer police Lt. Chris Martin said Thursday. “He suffered trauma to his head, face, chest and arm area.”

Todd Penny, 28, was driving a 1996 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, when he apparently lost control, hit a curb and went off the roadway, the lieutenant said. The collision occurred just after 6 p.m. near the junction of Pierce Road and Wilson Street, Martin said. Speed may have been a factor, he said.

Penny was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and was still being evaluated at 9:30 p.m., a nursing supervisor at the hospital said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Brewer Cpl. Anthony Pinette said. Brewer requested that Bangor Police Department’s accident reconstruction team investigate the cause of the crash, Martin said. It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved, he said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

A Kenduskeag man was shot with a Taser on Wednesday afternoon after apparently assaulting a woman at her Bolling Drive home in Bangor, police say.

The woman called for help just after 3 p.m., reporting that Brian Fuller, 28, was threatening her.

When Bangor police Officer Russell Twaddell arrived, Fuller was acting in a threatening manner and threatened to punch the officer in the face, Sgt. Brad Johnston said Thursday, reading from the police report.

Fuller then entered the woman’s home and reportedly began to assault her, according to the report. Twaddell pulled Fuller off the woman, and then used a Taser to stun him so he could be handcuffed, Johnston said.

Fuller was charged with assault, criminal threatening, disorderly conduct and burglary, a Class C felony. If convicted of the burglary, he could face up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.

Police said Fuller also had an outstanding warrant out on him for failure to pay fines from a former assault. He is being held without bail at Penobscot County Jail, a jail official said Thursday evening. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
