BANGOR – The University of Maine Museum of Art will host an informational meeting Monday, Sept. 15, for its first Fashion Challenge.

The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the museum, which is located in Norumbega Hall at 40 Harlow St.

The Fashion Challenge, which is being held in conjunction with the museum’s upcoming exhibit “Celebrities and Socialites: Photographs by Andy Warhol,” was inspired by the popular TV reality show “Project Runway.” UMaine’s version will consist of local individuals or teams of no more than three people who will create a garment that a celebrity might wear to a red-carpet event. The entire garment must be designed and constructed in 18 days. There is a $25 nonrefundable participation fee.

The rules and criteria will be discussed at Monday’s informational meeting.

The Fashion Challenge itself will be held Friday, Oct. 3 at the museum. The evening will feature a runway show, a special musical performance and a cash bar reception to follow the fashion show.

A guest panel of judges will judge the contest. Prizes will be awarded to the first-place winner and the runner-up. Bangor Daily News ShopGirl columnist Kristen Andresen will be the special guest host.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 16. Admission is $12 or $6 for museum members and UMaine students who present a Maine Card.
