BANGOR – Nathan Carter scored with just under eight minutes remaining to rally the Husson College Eagles to a 3-2 men’s soccer victory over the Saint Joseph’s College Monks Sunday.
Mark Trombley assisted on the winning goal and also scored a goal for 2-3 Husson. Tyler Metevier also scored for the Eagles, while Natapong Kongsuriya chipped in with an assist as Husson rallied from a 2-1 deficit.
Miguel Dominguez made three saves on 10 shots for the Eagles.
Kevin Melaga and Doug McCallum each had a goal and an assist for 0-2 Saint Joseph’s, and Will Pike made nine saves on 18 shots.
UMPI, UMFK post wins
At Presque Isle, the University of Maine-Presque Isle and the University of Maine-Fort Kent each picked up a win in the UMPI Powerade Tournament over the weekend.
On Saturday, UMPI defeated Thomas College 1-0 and UMFK topped Lyndon State 3-0. On Sunday, Lyndon State beat UMPI 3-0.
In Saturday’s first game, Devon Peaslee scored the game-winning goal for UMPI. Richard Felbaum made five saves on 16 shots for the Owls. Keegan Curtin stopped seven of 16 shots for Thomas.
In Saturday’s second game, Andre Anderson, Jarryd Philips and Keith Williams each scored a goal for UMFK. Giovanni Sinclair stopped two of four shots for the Bengals.
In Sunday’s game, Darren Roberge netted three goals to lead Lyndon State to victory.
Richard Felbaum made five saves on 11 shots for UMPI.
All-Tourney selections were: Thomas College: Tim Costal, Taylor Helberg and Keegan Curtin; UMFK: Andre Anderson, Keith Williams and Emlyn Jacoby; and UMPI: Corey Harding, Corey Fournier and Ben Costello.

At New Haven, Conn., on Sunday, Eric Mayer had a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs scored a season-opening win.
Jordan Raybould also scored for Yale, while Alex Guzinski, Max Rhodes and Charlie Neil chipped in with assists.
Travis Chulick made four saves on 11 Maine shots.
Alex Pilitsis made five saves on 14 shots for 1-3 Maine.
Bowdoin 1, UMF 0
At Brunswick on Saturday, Hugh Fleming scored late in the first half as the Polar Bears opened with a win.
Dominic Fitzpatrick assisted on the goal, while goalie Dan Hicks was required to make just one save on one shot.
Brian Lemont made 11 saves on 23 shots for UMaine-Farmington.
Colby 3, Maine Maritime 0
At Waterville on Saturday, freshmen Peter Randall and Josh Lyvers each scored in his first collegiate game as the Mules earned the win.
Senior Andrew Cheit also scored for Colby, while Scott Brown and Luc Bennett had assists.
Dan Marden and Doug Sibor shared goalkeeping duties for the Mules, but neither was required to make a save on two MMA shots.
Randy Bartlett made nine saves on 23 Colby shots.
USM 3, Saint Joseph’s 0
At Gorham on Saturday, Peter McHugh scored twice as Southern Maine improved its record to 3-0-1.
Sinisa Bajic also scored for the Huskies on an assist from Alex Burnham.
Burnham and Nick Johnson assisted on McHugh’s goals.
Steve May and Josh Sirois combined for one save on six Saint Joseph’s shots.
Will Pike had two saves on six shots for 0-1 Saint Joseph’s.
Women’s soccer
Maine 1, Iona 0 (2OT)
At New Rochelle, N.Y., on Sunday, Veronique Fleury scored on an assist from Carolynee Nellis in the second overtime as the Black Bears remained unbeaten.
Jasmine Phillips preserved the shutout for 3-0-2 Maine with four saves on eight Iona shots.
Suzanne Baidissard made six saves on nine shots for 0-5 Iona.
Colby 2, Maine Maritime 0
At Waterville on Saturday, Jess Bushee scored twice on assists from Whitney Lynn as the Mules posted the shutout.
Rachel Freierman earned her first career shutout, making one save on one Maine Maritime shot. Lacey Jackson saved 12 of 21 shots for 1-2 MMA.
Bowdoin 4, Bridgewater St. 0
At Brunswick on Saturday, the Polar Bears scored three second-half goals to pull away.
Emery Gould scored the lone first-half goal, and Alex von Gerichten, Dana Riker and Celeste Swain scored after intermission.
Kelly Thomas made six saves for Bowdoin, while Kayla Grover made nine saves for Bridgewater State.
Powerade Tournament
At Presque Isle, the University of Maine-Presque Isle earned a pair of wins at the UMPI Powerade Tournament this past weekend.
On Saturday, UMPI topped Thomas College 2-1, the University of Maine-Fort Kent downed Lyndon State 4-1, and UMPI defeated Lyndon State 3-2 on Sunday.
In Saturday’s first game, Erin Pelletier scored two goals for UMPI. Carolynn Tuck made two saves on eight shots for the Owls. Julia Nyitray scored for Thomas while Lindsay Gove stopped 14 of 32 shots.
In Saturday’s second game, Whitney Sinclair recorded two goals to lead UMFK past Lyndon State. Kayla Daigle made nine saves on 13 shots for the Bengals.
In Sunday’s game, Desiree Smith, Erin Pelletier and Carmen Allen each scored a goal for UMPI. Tuck stopped nine of 17 shots .
Desiree Smith, Erin Pelletier and Carmen Allen of UMPI were named to the All-Tournament team. UMFK’s Sarah Nadeau, Brianne McGary and Whitney Sinclair were also selected along with Thomas’ Vicki Devonshire, Lindsey Gove and Jess Nassetta.
Field hockey
Bates 2, UM-Farmington 0
At Farmington, Kelly McManus and Emily Sampson scored goals to lead Bates College past the University of Maine-Farmington Sunday.
Rachel Greenwood and Annie Wilson provided assists for the 1-0 Bobcats. Katie McEnroe made five saves.
Kaeleigh Barker turned away 12 shots for the 0-2 Beavers.
Southern Maine 2, Colby 1 (OT)
At Waterville, Whitney MacDaniel scored off a Sharaya Linscott assist at 83:42 in overtime to lead the University of Southern Maine past Colby Saturday.
Caitlin Albert scored at 27:45 in the first half with an assist from Alyssa Kraus for the 1-0 Huskies. Allison Hill blocked 14 of 21 shots.
Chelsea Rosenheimer scored off a Amy Campbell assist in the second half for 0-1 Colby. Liz Fontaine made seven saves on 12 shots.
Fitchburg State 3, Thomas 1
At Waterville, Megan Jacobs broke up the 1-1 tie in the second half to lead Fitchburg State past Thomas College Saturday.
Brittany Moore scored an unassisted goal for the Terriers.
St. Joseph’s 8, Regis 0
At Standish, Julia Ostrowski tallied three goals and an assist as Saint Joseph’s College shut out Regis College on Saturday.
Gina Gaetani and Kayla Nowell each added a pair of goals for Saint Joseph’s. Meaghan Johnson stopped all four shots she faced for the 1-0 Monks.
Kristen Tavares made 17 saves on 32 shots for 0-3 Regis College.
Thomas 4, Regis 0
At Waterville, Brittany Moore scored two second-half goals to lift Thomas College over Regis College Sunday.
Amy Miles and Christina Allaire added goals for the Terriers. Miles had two assists and Kellie Martel had one.
