The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $140,502 to the University of Maine system, according to a statement Tuesday from U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine.

The grant will be used to fund “Sports Done Right,” a statewide initiative aimed at developing and maintaining healthy interscholastic and youth sports programs.

UMaine will establish a web-based resource of best practices and policies intended to aid in the development of athletics in schools across the state.
