Plum Creek deliberations set in Bangor

State regulators will hold two days of deliberations later this month on Plum Creek Timber Co.’s controversial development plan for the Moosehead Lake area.

The Land Use Regulation Commission will meet beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, and beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Both meetings will be at the Ramada Inn on Odlin Road in Bangor.

This could be the final deliberations on Plum Creek’s historic development plan for the Moosehead region. After the meetings, LURC is expected to submit its final recommendation to Plum Creek.

Company officials will then have to decide whether the changes recommended by the commission are acceptable.

Plum Creek is seeking LURC approval for a 30-year concept plan featuring 975 house lots and two large resorts on roughly 20,000 acres in the Moosehead region. The company would still have to receive LURC approval for each subdivision or resort before beginning construction.

The proposal, which has deeply divided Mainers from all parts of the state, also includes more than 400,000 acres of permanent conservation land in the region.
