VERONA ISLAND – Sheriff’s deputies are seeking help from the public in their investigations of a break-in and an attempted break-in earlier this week.
According to Detective Alan Brown of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the two incidents took place on Monday and Tuesday on the East Side Road in Verona Island.
On Monday, thieves broke in to a home and stole electronic equipment from the residence. The theft was reported at about 2 p.m. and it is believed it took place about an hour before that, Brown said Thursday.
At about 11 a.m. Tuesday two individuals tried to break into a second residence not far from the first break-in.
“They were scared off by a resident who displayed a firearm from inside the residence, and they fled on foot,” Brown said.
State Trooper Jessica Shorey assisted Deputy Luke Gross at the scene and tracked the two suspects. Shorey determined that the suspects either were picked up or had a vehicle waiting for them.
The suspects are described as two males between 20 and 30 years old. One was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt; the other, a gray sweat shirt. The two may have been walking on East Side Drive between 11 a.m. and noon Tuesday.
Anyone who saw them or has any information about the break-ins can contact Detective Brown or Deputy Gross at 667-7575.
