The University of Maine-Farmington women’s soccer team split two games over the weekend, shutting out Wheelock 5-0 Saturday then losing 4-0 to Wheaton on Sunday.

At Boston on Saturday, Jennifer Richter and Chelsea Norton scored in the first 14:45 to send the UMF Beavers on their way. Bethany Charles, Katherine Gagne and Julie Walters added one goal apiece.

McKell Barnes made four saves on nine shots for UMF while Victoria Fernandes finished with nine saves on 22 shots for 1-2 Wheelock.

At Norton, Mass., Emily Hough scored one goal and assisted on two others Sunday to pace Wheaton to victory.

Lindsey McManus, Jessica Bramucci and Lauren Caney also scored for the 6-1 winners.

Barnes made nine saves for the 1-2 Beavers.

UMFK gains weekend split

The University of Maine-Fort Kent split its weekend games, beating Fisher 8-1 on Saturday before dropping a 7-0 decision Sunday to Husson University at Bangor.

On Sunday, Samantha Homer tallied three goals to lead the Eagles to victory. Shelby Bradford netted two goals and provided an assist for 4-1 Husson, while Megan Clement notched a goal and two assists and Katie Nickerson also contributed a goal.

Tatyana Wolterbeek and Rozlyn Peterson combined to make two saves on four shots.

Kayla Daigle came up with eight of the nine saves for 3-1 UMFK while being bombarded with 32 shots.

At South Boston on Saturday, Whitney Sinclair scored four goals and Pam Peralta added a pair as UMFK triumphed.

Angela Norsworthy and Emily Burnett scored the other goals while Kayla Daigle and Amanda Tracy combined for four saves.

Brianna Villemaire scored for Fisher and Ana Cuartas made 22 saves.

Maine 1, Bryant 1 (2OT)

At Orono, Christine LaBelle took a Veronique Fleury cross and converted from 18 yards out at the 31:25 mark of the first half to earn the tie.

Sarah Donovan opened the scoring for Bryant University (R.I.) off a Steph Del Mistro pass five minutes into the game as she beat Maine goalie Jasmine Phillips from 20 yards out.

Phillips finished with four saves on nine shots for 2-0-4 Maine while Katie Mitchell made three saves on seven shots for 1-4-1 Bryant, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Southern Maine 1, MMA 0

At Castine, Samantha Mathieu headed a Caitlin Brown corner kick into the net with six minutes left Sunday, lifting the Huskies of Gorham to victory over the Mariners.

Alison Bradley made five saves on 10 shots for the 2-1 University of Southern Maine.

Lacey Jackson made 10 saves on 25 shots for 2-4 Maine Maritime Academy.

Western Connecticut 4, Husson 1

At Danbury, Conn. on Saturday, Kelly Veras, Catherine Nathans and Jennifer Duran scored first-half goals as 18th-ranked Western Connecticut State upended Husson.

Angela Wozniak scored a second-half goal for the 2-1 winners and also had an assist as did Veras, Nathans, Amanda Genova and Lauren Francisco.

Megan LaJoie scored for Husson in the second half off a Megan Clement pass to make it 3-1 before Wozniak answered 2:14 later.

Shannon Cawley made eight saves on 13 shots for the Colonials with Tatyana Wolterbeek making 13 saves on 31 shots for 3-1 Husson.

Saint Joseph’s 1, Lasell 0

At Standish, Katie Jordan scored in the 12th minute and Katye Mayo made five saves on 12 shots Saturday as Saint Joseph’s improved to 1-2.

Elizabeth Stickley made 12 saves on 18 shots for 0-2 Lasell.

Men’s soccer

UMFK notches two shutouts

The University of Maine-Fort Kent racked up 13 goals and posted two shutouts over the weekend, blanking Fisher College 8-0 Saturday and shut out Husson University 5-0 Sunday.

At Bangor on Sunday, Andre Anderson scored goal in each half, both assisted by Emlyn Jacoby, as the Bengals remained unbeaten.

Keith Williams posted an unassisted goal to back Giovanni Sinclair, who made four saves on 14 shots for 5-0 UMFK.

Miguel Dominguez made five saves and faced 17 shots for 1-4 Husson of Bangor.

At South Boston on Saturday, Williams scored three times and Anderson had two more as UMFK cruised.

Dwayne Smith, Andrew Gervais and Henley Comrie had the other goals and Jermaine West had three assists. Giovanni Sinclair and Derick Plourde shared the goalkeeping.

Lang Jarrison made 37 saves for Fisher.

UMPI 2, MMA 0

At Presque Isle on Saturday, Devon Peaslee scored two goals, the second coming on a penalty shot, to power the Owls to victory over the Mariners.

Corey Fournier added an assist for the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Richard Feldbaum made two saves on three shots.

Randy Bartlett came up with four saves on eight shots for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

NMCC splits two contests

At Bedford, N.H. on Sunday, Luke Ireland scored a pair of goals and Sam Petrie made six saves as Northern Maine Community College beat Hesser College 3-0.

On Saturday in Auburn, Central Maine Community College beat NMCC 3-1.

In Sunday’s game, Justin Lyshon had the other goal for 1-1 NMCC and Nathan Manning-Harris had an assist. Nathan Rosenstein made 20 saves for Hesser.

On Saturday, Casey Wong, Mahad Osman and Abdijabar Hersi scored to pace 1-0 CMCC. Brian Mills made 12 saves.

Ireland scored for NMCC off a Manning-Harris pass and Petrie made 13 saves.

Iona 2, Maine 1

At Brooklyn, N.Y., Giovanni Destasio and Ben Williams scored late goals seven minutes apart Sunday to lift the Gaels to victory.

Destasio scored off a Rob Hernandez-Raaen assist at 79:20, then Williams converted a penalty kick at 86:28 to give the 3-2 hosts the margin of victory. Nils Binstock made three saves on 13 shots.

Adam Loiacono scored with a header off a Nikola Bogdanovic corner kick for 2-4 UMaine. Nemanja Jostic faced 10 shots, but did not record a save.

Worcester State 2, USM 1 (2OT)

At Worcester, Mass., Constantino Patramanis scored with 1:08 remaining in the second overtime off a Brian Andrade pass to give the 3-1-2 Lancers their win over 3-2-1 Southern Maine on Saturday.

Andrew Babineau opened the scoring in the second half but Sinisa Bajic equalized five minutes later.

Daniel Hansen made six saves on 16 shots for the winners while David Kreps made three stops on 12 shots for USM.

Lasell 1, Saint Joseph’s 0

At Standish, Kyle Cronin scored in the 51st minute and Julian Dutton made five saves Saturday as Lasell College (Mass.) improved to 1-3.

Will Pike made seven stops for 0-3-1 Saint Joseph’s.

N.H. Tech 4, Unity 1

At Unity on Saturday, Antonio Difsha scored a pair of goals to lead New Hampshire Technical Institute past Unity College.

Asa Johnson and Nicholas Papamichael had the other goals for the winners. Difsha and Papamichael each converted from the penalty spot. Josh Smith and Shawn Prescott had assists.

Evan Ortega made five saves.

Tim Stephenson scored for 0-4 Unity with Chad Pin assisting. Ian Shalit made nine saves.

Field hockey

Maine splits

At Burlington, Vt., Stephanie Gardiner’s two second-half goals completed a three-goal rally to give Maine a 3-2 win over Monmouth University (N.J.) on Saturday.

On Sunday, Linda Haussener’s three first-half goals led No. 15-ranked Ohio State to a 4-0 triumph over the Black Bears.

On Saturday, Jocelyn Mitchell began the Maine comeback with eight seconds left in the first half off a Gardiner assist.

Brittany Fleck made three saves on 10 shots for Maine while 0-5 Monmouth received first-half goals from Janine Rini and Aileen Bosemans. Rini assisted on Boseman’s goal.

Melissa Katz made nine saves on 21 shots for Monmouth.

On Sunday, Jena Cacciatore had the other goal for 5-2 OSU and Jenn Sciulli had two assists.

Lindsay Quintilliani had two saves on seven shots for OSU while Fleck made two saves and allowed three goals for 2-3 Maine and Elizbeth Anderson made one save and allowed on goal.

Castleton State 5, Husson 1

At Castleton, Vt., Carolyn Griggs had three goals and an assist and Kayla Blank contributed two goals and an assist Sunday as Castleton State won its third straight.

Trisha Clark and Siobhan Whittemore combined for seven saves for 4-2 Castleton State.

Elisha Dorso scored for 0-2 Husson off a Kyle Ellis pass and Jenika Kelley made nine saves.

Framingham State 3, So. Maine 1

At Framingham, Mass., Kristen Sacco scored two goals and had an assist Saturday to power the Rams to victory over the Huskies of Gorham.

Kali Barrett tallied the eventual game-winner for Framingham State (3-0, 1-0 Little East Conference). Steph Bourgeois made seven saves on 13 shots.

Caitlin Albert scored off a Brianna Beisaw assist for Southern Maine (1-2, 0-1 LEC). Allison Hill made 18 saves on 27 shots.

Saint Joseph’s 9, Anna Maria 0

At Standish, Kayla Nowell scored three goals Sunday to power the Monks to victory.

Kelly Emerson and Gina Gaetani scored two goals each for 2-0 Saint Joseph’s, while Jillian Kimball provided a goal and three assists. Julia Ostrowski had the other goal.

Alyssa Boykin made 22 saves for 0-5 Anna Maria, which did not have any shots on goal.
