CALAIS – Calling themselves the Everyday Living Class, the students in the life skills program at Calais High School have grown their own vegetables for the school’s food service workers to prepare for the student body’s daily lunches.
Organized by life skills teacher Janice Rice, the students planted tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes at the end of the school year. Senior Joe Moffit was responsible for tending the garden throughout the summer. The whole class is now pitching in to harvest the bounty.
The vegetables have made the school salad bar extra fresh, and the potatoes likely will be a hit at the next life skills breakfast celebration. Students Alex Doten, Andrei Ford, Kyle Cole and Zach Johnson participated in the project.
