BANGOR – Penobscot Theatre Company announced Monday that it would extend the run of “On Golden Pond” due to the demand for tickets opening weekend.

Ernest Thompson’s play opened Friday at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St. The 1981 film version starred Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda and won three Academy Awards.

Four dates have been added, Scott R.C. Levy, producing artistic director for PTC, said Monday. The show originally was scheduled to close Sunday.

The performances will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, and Thursday, Sept. 25; at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28.
