BANGOR – The award-winning documentary “The Price of Sugar,” narrated by Paul Newman, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Columbia Street Baptist Church, 63 Columbia St.
The 2007 film follows the Rev. Christopher Hartley, a Catholic priest, as he organizes some of the dispossessed Haitian workers toiling in the sugar cane fields of the Dominican Republic. The workers lack decent housing, clean water, electricity, education or health care.
Director Bill Haney spent three years working on the film that raises questions about where the products Americans consume originate and at what human cost they are produced.
