STANDISH – A Thomas College player headed the ball into his own goal 3:07 into overtime to give Saint Joseph’s College a 2-1 men’s soccer win Tuesday.
Paul Robins scored an unassisted goal at 85:51 in the second half to tie it at 1-1 for the 1-3-1 Monks. Will Pike stopped one of four shots.
Tim Costa scored off a Scott Pullen assist at 38:29 in the first for 1-3 Thomas. Keegan Curtain made five saves on 10 shots.
Field hockey
U-New England 4, St. Joseph’s 3
At Biddeford, Nicole Mace scored two first-half goals to lead the University of New England past Saint Joseph’s College of Standish.
Taryn Flagg and Michaela Franey each had a goal and an assist for the 1-2 Nor’easters. Kim Anderson provided an assist. Ayla Nelson blocked seven of 14 shots.
Julia Ostrowski scored twice for the 2-1 Monks. Sarah Bartell scored a second-half goal off a Kayla Nowell assist to bring Saint Joseph’s within one of UNE. Nowell also assisted Ostrowski’s first goal. Meaghan Johnson made 12 saves on 22 shots.
Women’s soccer
UM-Augusta 3, SMCC 2
At Augusta, Jess St. Amand had a first-half hat trick as the University of Maine at Augusta defeated Southern Maine Community College of South Portland.
Danielle Fredette provided an assist for 1-1 UM-Augusta. Erin Leary blocked 11 of 17 shots.
Katie Crespo scored two second-half goals for 1-2 SMCC. Cheyanne Larson turned away eight of 27 shots.
USM 1, UM-Farmington 0
At Farmington, Danielle Poulin scored an unassisted goal at 68:33 in the second half to push the University of Southern Maine of Gorham past the University of Maine at Farmington.
Alison Bradley blocked five of 17 shots for the 3-1 Huskies.
Mckell Barnes made three saves on eight shots for the 1-3 Beavers.
Colby 1, U-New England 0 (OT)
At Waterville, Kayla Kawalick scored off a Nikki Pickering assist at 92:02 in overtime to lift Colby College over the University of New England of Biddeford.
Loni Pisani made seven saves for 3-1 Colby.
Leigh Engel turned away 12 shots for the 3-1 Nor’easters.
