AUBURN – A jury has convicted a Maine man of raping and murdering his pregnant co-worker before burying her body in a shallow grave last year.

Jurors in Androscoggin County Superior Court deliberated just two hours Thursday before returning guilty verdicts against 45-year-old Richard Dwyer of Canton.

Prosecutors used DNA evidence to link Dwyer to the crime. They also produced surveillance tapes showing Dwyer purchasing a pickax and shovel the night the victim disappeared.

The victim, 38-year-old Donna Paradis, was eight months pregnant at the time of her death. Prosecutors say Dwyer raped and robbed her before killing her and burying her body in Lewiston.
