Senate District 26

Skowhegan-Jackman area

Republican

Peter Mills

Age: 65

Hometown: Cornville

Address: 269 Oxbow Road

Web site: petermills.info

Education: Gorham High School, Harvard College, University of Maine School of Law.

Family: Married to Nancy Mills. I have three grown children.

Occupation: Attorney

Experience: Maine Senate, four terms from 1994 to 2000; Maine House, one term from 2002 to 2004; Maine Senate, two terms from 2004 to 2008.

Reason for running: Maine faces many economic and environmental threats. Our public debt, staggering unfunded liabilities, deteriorating infrastructure, Byzantine tax code and the vacuum of common sense on energy and health policy have deeply undermined our polity. The Legislature needs people who understand these issues and who are willing to grapple with them responsibly from day to day.

Democrat

Robert Sezak

Age: 56

Hometown: Fairfield

Address: 18 Bunker Ave.

Web site: www.sezakforsenate.org

Education: Bachelor of Science in public administration, University of Maine at Augusta; served as student representative to the University of Maine board of trustees.

Family: Norma Larsson, partner; no children.

Occupation: Sole proprietor of RE-BOOKS, a used-book store in downtown Waterville for 15 years; president, FASTZAK Inc., a property management company established in 1999.

Experience: Selectman, town of Troy, 1983-1989; while selectman, served on the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee and the Waldo County Budget Committee; former member of the Waterville Main Street board of directors; treasurer and past president of the Maine Antiquarian Booksellers Association; five years as Fairfield trustee to the Kennebec Water District, currently serving as vice president.

Reason for running: It is important to ensure that the people of Somerset County are heard. With the economy in disarray and its effects on energy, health care and employment, small business and the workers, the backbone of the Maine economy, are in need of stability in many areas of their lives. I will support well-planned development while seeking to find ways to improve health costs and provide alternative energy resources that preserve Maine’s qualities.
