Lynx shut down Orono Stearns, MCI, Mt. Blue, Gardiner post victories

ORONO – Brady Vose rushed 13 times for 58 yards and returned an interception for a touchdown as Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln defeated the Orono Red Riots 14-8 in an early high school football showdown of two top LTC Class C teams Friday night.

Kyle Epp added a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Lynx.

Orono’s Kash Keezer completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mo Garcia in the third quarter. Keezer was three of seven for 42 yards. Blaine Silk rushed 80 yards on 16 carries.

At Bar Harbor, Terrence Jones rushed 11 times for 121 yards and scored two touchdowns as Mount Desert Island earned a big victory over the Purple Panthers

Jasper Cousins also scored two touchdowns for the Trojans and he also had 16 tackles on defense.

Nolan Hall caught a 55-yard pass from Tyler Crawford in the third quarter.

Camden Fernald recorded 11 tackles for MDI and Oliver Prior converted all five extra point kicks in his first game as kicker.

Kris Huggins led Waterville with two scoring runs. He finished with 137 yards rushing on 22 carries. He also had five catches for 59 yards.

Kyle Bishop completed 10 of 11 passes for 82 yards.

Stearns 49, Old Town 0

At Millinocket, Stearns piled up 221 rushing yards as a team while holding Old Town to negative-12 yards on the ground as they cruised to their third win.

Kurt Hamilton led the balanced effort with 57 yards on 11 carries and a 5-yard touchdown. Charlie Osborne hauled in a 5-yard TD pass from Jared McGreevy while compiling 54 yards on 12 carries. Billy Eurich notched 55 yards on six rushes for Stearns.

Nate Cyr caught three passes for 69 yards and a 33-yard second-quarter TD. McGreevy finished 5-for-10 for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Josh Stahl recorded 13 tackles and a sack, Charlie Tapley 10 tackles, 11/2 sacks, including a solo sack for a safety while Jason Levasseur had two interceptions, including a 50-yard return for a touchdown.

Cody Cross had two catches for 65 yards for Old Town.

At Pittsfield, Maine Central Institute broke open a 12-point game after three quarters with 22 points in the fourth as the Huskies shut out Dexter.

Nick Miller rushed 14 times for 130 yards and scored three touchdowns for MCI. He also had two receptions for 52 yards.

Brandon Wilson completed five of six passes for 120 yards and ran nine times for 27 yards. Backup quarterback Caleb Laffalle caught two passes for 66 yards and also completed both pass attempts for 13 yards, including a fourth-quarter TD pass to Nick Cook.

Markus White led the Huskies on defense with 15 tackles and Miller added 11 tackles and one interception.

At Farmington, the Cougars’ defense held Brewer to 16 yards of offense as they earned their first win of the year.

Derek Rowe led Mt. Blue’s offense with 76 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. Ryan Dacus connected on four of nine passes for 54 yards, including a 13-yard TD toss to Ben Altmaier.

Gardiner 7, Hampden 0

At Hampden, Forrest Chadwick, who ran for 123 yards on 17 carries, scored the game’s only touchdown on a 67-yard run in the first quarter as Gardiner blanked Hampden.

The Broncos came close to tying it in the third quarter, but the Tigers’ Pete Caradonna stopped Hampden’s Nolan Turner at the half yard-line on a fourth-and-goal play.

Caradonna finished with 78 yards on 24 carries for Gardiner, while Isaac Cone, Andy Kelly and Steve Williams were instrumental in holding Hampden to 71 net yards.

Michael Jenkins had six carries for 33 yards and Turner six for 30 for Hampden.
