Rockland scores two in second, edges Tigers

GARDINER – Novelle Szandzik and Baillie Boggs scored two second-half goals to help lead the Rockland Tigers to a 2-1 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Gardiner Tigers Friday.

Szandzik assisted Boggs’ goal for 2-3 Rockland. Kayla McGuire and Natalie Russell combined for 16 saves on 25 shots.

Ashley Abbot scored off a Stephanie Easton assist with nine minutes remaining in the second half to bring 1-3-1 Gardiner within a goal. Jen Day stopped 11 of 17 shots.

Ashland 4, Fort Fairfield 1

At Fort Fairfield, Macie Pelkey scored two goals as Ashland defeated Fort Fairfield.

Brooke Lebelle and Jackie D’Ozier also scored for the 7-1-1 Hornets. Taylor Baker made four saves on six shots.

Brooke Beaulieu scored an unassisted goal for 5-4-1 Fort Fairfield. Katy Donovan blocked 17 of 21 shots.

Calvary Chapel 7, Shead 2

At University College of Bangor, Jaqueline Veilleux had a hat trick with three goals as Calvery Chapel of Orrington beat Shead of Eastport.

Megan Warman scored two goals for the Sabers. Ashley Pomeroy had a goal and two assists and Jessica Owens scored a goal. Hannah Lacadie provided an assist and Emily Mills turned away eight of 11 shots.

Kirby McPhail scored both goals for Shead. Casey Barnes blocked 17 of 27 shots.

Madawaska 2, Van Buren 1

At Madawaska, Ashley Cyr scored with 10:10 left in the first half to break the 1-1 tie and lift Madawaska over Van Buren.

Cyr also scored off a Susan Lavertu assist with 30:14 remaining in the first half for 7-3 Madawaska. Stephanie Nadeau made nine saves on 10 shots.

Kelly Vaillancourt tied it at 1-1 off a Lindsay Lajoie assist with 18:49 remaining in regulation for 7-4 Van Buren. Ashley Wilson turned away 12 of 15 shots.

Boys soccer

Southern Aroostook 5, Lee 1

At Dyer Brook, Tyler Robinson had two goals and an assist as the Warriors improved their record to 3-4-1.

Dakota Sleeper added a goal and three assists for Southern Aroostook, while Nick Tarr and Patrick Goodall also scored for the winners.

Ben Guido scored for 2-2 Lee on an assist from Hector Gutierrez.

Dillon Boulier made five saves on eight shots for Southern Aroostook. A.J. Harris and Gutierrez combined to make nine saves on 20 shots.

Highview 4, Chop Point 2

At Woolwich, Alex Papkov had a goal and assist to lead Highview Christian of Charleston to victory.

Ryosuke Yamada, Cody Crooker and Stefan Rowe added goals for the 3-0 Knights. Rowe and Wesley Jones teamed up for 12 saves on 16 shots.

Calvin O’Donnell and Daniel Wiener scored for 0-2 Chop Point. Mike Princiotte saved 13 of 17 shots.

Woodland 8, Jonesport-Beals 1

At Jonesport, Chad James scored three goals and assisted two others to lead Woodland past Jonesport-Beals.

Brad Arthurs also scored three goals for the 4-2 Dragons. Kyle Pike had a goal and an assist and Todd Wormell added a goal. Wormell and Ryan Lincoln combined for eight saves on 10 shots.

Terrell Carver scored off a Marcus Fenton assist for 0-5 Jonesport-Beals. Sid Look and Travis Alley combined to turn away 16 of 30 shots.

Orono 5, George Stevens 0

At Orono, Brandon Paul scored two goals while Gracen Malave dished out two assists to lead Orono to the win.

Ian Staples had one goal and assisted on another while Lee Hecker and Chris Johnson added goals for the 3-2 Red Riots. A.J. Coleman and Kerry Eaton combined to stop all seven shots.

Nate Hines and Josh Hale teamed up for seven saves on 12 shots for 2-4 George Stevens of Blue Hill.

Oak Hill 3, Mount View 2

At Thorndike, Bryan Soucy scored with 1:03 left in the second half to break the 2-2 tie and lead Oak Hill of Sabattus to victory over Mount View.

Adam Soucey and Zach Lennett also scored for 4-1 Oak Hill. Glenn Allen made 14 saves on 25 shots.

Ben Fox and Kiel Lemeiux scored for 1-3 Mount View. Dylan Keller assisted Lemeiux’s goal. Nick Knight turned away seven of 11 shots.

JV: Mount View 2-0

Old Town 4, John Bapst 3 (OT)

At Bangor, Dan LeBreton’s unassisted goal with 14 seconds left in the first overtime gave the Coyotes the victory.

Tavis Schaefer, Luke Bartlett and Lucas Baillageron added goals and Chad Paradis two assists for 4-2 Old Town. Alex Cadellero had eight saves on 16 shots.

Andrew Casey scored all three goals for 2-2-1 John Bapst. Casey Hull saved eight of 18 shots.

Fort Fairfield 2, Ashland 1

At Fort Fairfield, Travis Noyes scored two second-half goals to lead the Tigers past the Hornets.

Austin Bixler assisted on Noyes’ first goal for the 7-3 Tigers, who trailed 1-0 at intermission. Austin Dufour had 17 saves on 18 shots.

Stephen Philbrook scored in the first half for 7-2 Ashland. Bobby Gardiner saved 12 of 22 shots.

Central 3, Hermon 2

At Hermon, Jon Daniel and David Lord scored unassisted goals to lead the Central Red Devils of Corinth past Hermon.

Matt St. Peter added a goal and Patrick Byers an assist for the 3-1-2 winners. Cole Haskell had 15 saves on 23 shots.

Jesse Graffam and Alex Pederson scored goals while Kevin Tarr picked up an assist for 0-5 Hermon. Jerimy McIntyre saved 12 of 16 shots.

Field hockey

Orono 1, Piscataquis 0

At Orono, Chelsea Wagner scored an unassisted first-half goal to lead Orono to the victory.

Amber Saucier didn’t have to save the only shot she faced for the 3-3 Red Riots.

Brianna Tweedie saved four of six shots for 0-5 Piscataquis of Guilford.

Dexter 2, Stearns 1

At Dexter, Jess Mason scored goals with 28 and 24 minutes remaining in the second half to give Dexter the win over Stearns of Millinocket.

Cally Mountain assisted Mason’s second goal for 5-0 Dexter. Sam Conway blocked five of 10 shots.

Molly LeGassey scored an unassisted goal in the first half for 3-2 Stearns. Kirsten Marter made eight saves on 15 shots.

JV: Dexter 2-0

Hermon 2, Central 0

At Corinth, Jaimie Beers and Lauren Tara scored second-half goals to lead Hermon past Central.

Lily Barry assist Beers’ goal for 3-3 Hermon. Jamie Roy blocked all seven shots.

Brittany Cote made nine saves on 11 shots for 3-3 Central.

JV: Hermon 2-0
