Curtin goal rallies Rockland by MCI

ROCKLAND – A goal by Brighde Curtin snapped a 3-3 tie and lifted the Rockland Tigers to a 4-3 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Maine Central Institute Huskies Monday.

Cassie Elwell hit a Baillie Boggs corner kick to Curtin who then put it in the net with 10 minutes left in the game.

Novelle Szandzik scored the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half for 3-3 Rockland. Boggs had a goal and an assist and Elwell also scored. Natalie Russell blocked eight of 17 shots.

Ashley Kitchin scored two goals for 0-5-1 MCI. Melanie Arias chipped in with a goal. All three of the Huskies’ goals were in the first half. Alana Oliver turned away 14 of 24 shots.

Ellsworth 4, John Bapst 1

At Bangor, Ashley Smith scored two first-half goals for the 6-0 Eagles. Casey Wyman and Lauren Peer added one goal each, all were unassisted. Angie Tucker made 14 saves on 15 shots in goal for the winners.

Brittney Williams scored an unassisted goal for the Crusaders. Laura Jordan had 10 saves on 14 shots for the 3-2 Crusaders.

Schenck 3, DI-Stonington 0

At East Millinocket, Alexxa Pasanen scored two goals to lift Schenck over Deer Isle-Stonington Saturday.

Sam York added a goal for the 1-4 Wolverines. Karlie Michaud provided an assist. Kira Burleigh stopped 10 of 11 shots.

Anika Powers turned away 14 of 19 shots for 0-3-1 DI-Stonington.

Calvary Chapel 4, Narraguagus 0

At University College of Bangor, Megan Warman, Jacqueline Veilleux, Hope Johnson and Lesanne Ricker scored to lead Calvary Chapel of Orrington past Narraguagus of Harringotn.

Jasmine Despres provided an assist for the Sabers. Emily Mills stopped both shots.

Samantha Baker made 19 saves on 26 shots for Narraguagus.

Field hockey

Camden Hills 1, Oak Hill 0

At Rockport, Maddy Smeaton scored the lone goal 41/2 minutes into the second half to lead the Windjammers to victory.

Lindsey Bumbalo and Carley Coleman combined for four saves on four shots for Camden Hills.

Alex Donald and Maggie Sabine combined for 11 saves on 13 shots for Oak Hill of Sabbatus.

Boys soccer

Schenck 2, DI-Stonington 0

At East Millinocket on Saturday, Aaron Hutchins tallied twice to give the Wolverines their first victory.

Ryan Thompson made nine saves on 12 shots for Schenck, and Eben Powers stopped 12 of the 20 shots he faced.

Washington Acad. 4, Woodland 1

At East Machias, Roman Richards scored two goals as Washington Academy defeated Woodland.

Sung Min Kim and Milos Gautier also scored for the 5-1 Raiders. Bryce Colbeth blocked 10 of 15 shots.

Chad James scored a first-half goal for 4-3 Woodland. Ryan Lincoln made 21 saves on 34 shots.

Piscataquis 7, Searsport 0

At Guilford, Kyle Steeves scored three goals as Piscataquis Community High School of Guilford triumphed.

Damien Bridge, Matt Gilbert, Dustin Yonkin and Matt Cole scored the other goals with Kyle Curtis and Justin Cleaves picking up assists. Corbin Shufelt made eight saves.

Dan Peach made 10 saves for 2-7 Searsport.

JV: 2-2

Shead 9, Jonesport-Beals 2

At Jonesport, Tommy Pottle, Justin Lewey, and Caleb Ricker each scored two goals to lead the Tigers of Eastport to victory.

Timmy Barnes, Shane Seeley and Dave Medeiros each added a goal for the 2-2 winners and Tyler Mitchell made eight saves on 14 shots.

Terrell Carver scored off an assist from Zach Fenton for 0-6 Jonesport-Beals and Matt Alley added a goal. Travis Alley and Cote Thistlewood combined for 24 saves on 35 shots.

DI-Stonington 2, Sumner 1 (OT)

At East Sullivan, Joe Carter scored the winning goal with 1:52 left in overtime to lead Deer Isle-Stonington.

Carter was credited with a first-half goal as the ball was knocked into the net by a Sumner player. Eben Powers stopped six of 11 shots for the 3-3 Mariners.

Gabe O’Brien scored on a direct kick seven minutes into the game for 1-6 Sumner. Josh Ring blocked two of six shots.

Calais 4, Narraguagus 0

At Harrington, Jeff Johnston scored two goals as Calais shut out Narraguagus.

Fabrizio Soberanis and Steven Rogers also scored for 4-1 Calais. Jordan Leeman made four saves on five shots.

Brenden Tenney and Aidan Rittenhouse combined for 10 saves on 15 shots for 2-5 Narraguagus.

GSA 0, Penquis 0

At Milo, Penquis goalie Richie Russell made 17 saves and George Stevens Academy goalie Nate Hines made 11 to preserve the shutout through two overtimes.

GSA outshot Penquis 31-18. GSA is now 2-4-1 and Penquis is 2-3-1.

MDI 2, Bucksport 0

At Bar Harbor, Tyler Steel and Abe Gladstone scored goals to lead Mount Desert Island past Bucksport.

Gladstone assisted Steel’s goal in the first half. Ben Cummings made six saves on nine shots for 4-2 MDI.

Joe Goodin blocked five of 11 shots for 2-4 Bucksport.

JV: MDI 2-1

Bangor 5, Lawrence 1

At Fairfield, Phil Frost scored two first-half goals and the unbeaten Rams jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead en route to their sixth win.

Nick George added a goal and assist for the winners and Dan Taft and Luke Hetterman each notched a goal. Mac Susi chipped in with two assists while Frost had one. Alan Reese made two saves on five shots.

Justin Landry scored unassisted for 2-4 Lawrence and Codey Sabian made 12 saves on 26 shots.

JV: Bangor 1-0

Penobscot Valley 2, Schenck 1

At East Millinocket, goals by Joe Brown and Charlie Gardner gave the Howlers of Howland a 2-0 lead, and they held off the Wolverines the rest of the way.

John MacKinnon assisted on Gardner’s goal, and Jacob Jones made three saves on 10 shots for the 4-1-1- Howlers.

Aaron Hutchins scored unassisted for 1-5-1 Schenck, and Ryan Thompson made 24 saves on 30 shots.

John Bapst 3, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Andrew Casey scored three unanswered goals as John Bapst of Bangor defeated Hermon.

Andrew Babbitt and Alex Gale provided assists for the 3-2-1 Crusaders. Ryan Carr made seven saves on 15 shots.

Lance Hollobaugh scored an unassisted first-half goal for 0-7 Hermon. Cory Johnson turned away seven of 13 shots.

Dexter 4, Foxcroft 0

At Dexter, Devon Grant scored a goal and assisted another to lead Dexter past Foxcroft Academy.

C.J. Giles, Lee Gustin and Will Pearsall scored for the 4-0-2 Tigers. Ryan Wilks provided three assists and Nathan Wyman turned away six of 11 shots.

Jason Lee blocked 12 of 31 shots for 0-5-1 Foxcroft.

Old Town 7, Central 2

At Old Town, Janis Schaefer scored three goals and provided two assists as Old Town beat Central of Corinth.

Jake Leithiser scored twice for the 5-2 Coyotes and Luke Bartlett had a goal and an assist. Jacob St. Peter also scored and Dan LeBreton and Lucas Baillargeon had assists. Lee Larry and Alex Cabellero combined for seven saves on nine shots.

Jacob Speed and David Lord scored to lead 3-2-2 Central. Cole Haskell blocked 10 of 17 shots.

JV: Old Town 5-0

Katahdin 12, Ashland 1

At Presque Isle, Marshal Davis scored six goals and assisted another as Katahdin of Stacyville defeated Ashland.

Ethan Qualey had four goals and an assist for the 8-0 Cougars. Colby Gallagher added two goals and Billy Duffy provided two assists. Mickey Savage and Richard Qualey had assists. Matt Tarr blocked four of nine shots.

Kenny Tarr scored a second-half goal for 7-3 Ashland. Bobby Gardiner and Andrew Libby combined for 14 saves on 26 shots.
