FARMINGTON – Greg Cavanaugh and Paul Robins scored second half goals to lead Saint Joseph’s College of Standish past the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in men’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

Will Pike turned away eight shots for the 3-3-2 Monks.

Matthew Dennett made four saves for 2-3 UM-Farmington.

USM 5, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Peter McHugh scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the University of Southern Maine past Thomas College.

Greg Cox and Ben Slagle scored less than a minute apart to open the scoring in the first half before McHugh and Nick Johnson extended the lead to 4-0.

McHugh added a second-half goal.

Sinisa Bajic and Johnson had assists and David Kreps made six saves on seven shots.

Anthony Wheeler and James Gorneau teamed up for four saves on 13 shots.

Field hockey

Bowdoin 2, USM 0

At Gorham, Madeliene McQueeney and Jessie Small scored first-half goals as the nation’s No. 1-ranked Polar Bears beat the University of Southern Maine.

Emileigh Mercer and Emily Nelson combined on the shutout. They weren’t required to make a save for the defending NCAA Division III champions, who are now 7-0 and haven’t allowed a goal.

Allison Hill made 18 saves on 28 shots for the 2-4 Huskies.
