The Friends of the Bangor Public Library are working with volunteer trip coordinator Nancy Ziegenbein of Bangor on their first fundraising and “friend-raising” coach tour.
It is planned for Sunday, Oct. 19, when you will enjoy brunch at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, then view the Farnsworth Art Museum’s 60th anniversary year exhibits in Rockland.
The reservation deadline is Oct. 6.
The $89 cost includes transportation, brunch, museum admission, a docent tour and a book lecture by Julie Stackpole of Merlicon Bindery of Thomaston.
Checks made payable to Friends of the Bangor Public Library may be mailed to Ziegenbein, volunteer trip coordinator, 41 Linden St., Bangor 04401, or may be left at the circulation desk of the library at 145 Harlow St. You are asked to indicate whether you are 65 or older.
Boarding for the tour begins at 9 a.m. in the parking lot across from the library. The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns about 6 p.m. that day to the same location.
This is a handicap-accessible tour, and all proceeds benefit the Bangor Public Library.
Ziegenbein is looking forward to this tour and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the event, any special needs to be addressed or opportunities for boarding south of Bangor along Routes 1A and 1.

Your chances of winning a three-bedroom, one-bath ranch modular home, valued at $67,000, are 1 in 1,000, reports Michael Reisman, executive director of the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth.
Raffle proceeds will raise money for programs provided by the Wright Center for individuals and their families living with cancer in Hancock and Washington counties.
Raffle tickets are $100 each and are available during regular business hours at the Wright Center, 3 High St., by calling the center at 664-0339, and during regular business hours at the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce on High Street.
You may also buy raffle tickets during Ellsworth’s Autumn Gold festivities.
Raffle tickets will be sold from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Autumn Gold Block Party in the L.L. Bean parking lot on High Street, and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Union River Waterfront Park. The drawing for the modular home will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Waterfront Park.
Someone will win the house, but more importantly, your donations will help those in need.

Gaynor Reynolds reports two hydrangea wreath workshops will be offered, one at 10 a.m. and the other at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at ECOTAT Gardens in Hermon.

Lisa Gordon reminds readers the Ellsworth High School Alumni Association fifth annual Walkin’ to School five-mile fundraiser begins with registration at 8 a.m. and the walk at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the school.
The scenic route takes you past 15 present and historic sites of Ellsworth schools and along Leonard Lake, the Union River and through downtown Ellsworth.
Gordon wants readers to know the event, also in conjunction with Ellsworth’s Autumn Gold Weekend, is not limited to Ellsworth school clubs and teams and that any nonprofit club or team is welcome to participate.
Half the money that a club or team raises is returned to the organization, and pledge sheets are available at www.ellsworthalumni.org.
Because of renovation at the Pittsfield Public Library, Story Time will be 10:15-11 a.m. Tuesdays downstairs at the Pittsfield town office, reports librarian Lyn Smith.
The theme for Sept. 30 is “Sunny Sunflowers.”
While the renovation is in progress, the library’s front door is inaccessible. So you are asked to use the side door.

Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Bangor Y are partnering to offer a free blood pressure screening from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Bangor Y on Hammond Street.
Everyone is welcome to participate, particularly people who may be experiencing high blood pressure symptoms such as headaches, dizziness and blurred vision.
