BRADLEY – The Maine Forest and Logging Museum at Leonard’s Mills will present a new event at its living history site 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, off Route 178 in Bradley.
“Revolution, Medicine and Re-enacting” combines American Revolutionary War re-enactors – a physician and his wife, a Hessian soldier’s wife, a family living in a log cabin – and a historian reporting on Hampden’s involvement in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
Machias’ Sons of Liberty and George White’s Company of Revolutionary War re-enactors will conduct drills, cooking and the firing of mortars and arms, led by Paul Smith, teacher at Old Town High School.
William and Kathy Cook will demonstrate the medical services of the period. Kathy Cook, representing an American soldier’s wife, will converse with the Hessian soldier’s wife, Anette Rodrigues. Hessian soldiers were stationed at Fort George in Castine during the American Revolution.
The Olson family will be “living” in the log cabin, churning butter and cooking on an open hearth. The Olsons have done re-enacting at several locations, including at Yorktown for the signing of the Surrender at Yorktown.
Linda Costello of the Hampden Historical Society will be the historian on hand. The Hampden Historical Society is cooperatively presenting this event.
Leonard’s Mills is located on Government Road off Route 178 in Bradley. Admission fees are $5, $2 children 12 years and under. For information, call 581-2871 and leave a message.
