Energy forum tonight

PITTSFIELD – Anyone seeking information and options on saving energy in homes and businesses is invited to Monday night’s second Pittsfield Area Energy Forum at 6:30 p.m. at Vickery School gymnasium.

Town Manager Kathryn Ruth said the first forum last year was such a success that more than 40 companies, agencies and organizations have been invited to set up booths and provide information tonight.

“There has been significant interest in attending this event,” Ruth said. “The focus of the evening is to provide information and options for individuals, businesses and organizations to explore in order to be more energy conscious and to better be able to make decisions that will assist with energy conservation and the cost of services.”

The keynote speaker for the evening is Richard Fortier, the solar program manager with the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Also speaking will be state Rep. Stacey Fitts, who serves on the governor’s wind power task force. He will provide an update of the task force’s progress in identifying sites for wind farms in Maine.

“The Pittsfield Area Energy Forum is a must for anyone who wants to know more about how to reduce their energy costs,” Ruth said. She said booths would be set up on subjects such as alternative energy, composting, energy-reduction tips, financial programs, organic farming, solar programs, weatherization products and windmills and wind power.

Some of those offering information include: Sebasticook Valley Credit Union, Kennebec County of Governments, Evolo Home Center-Windmills, Pittsfield Recycling Committee, Pennywise Thrift Shop, Parks Farmers Market, Aubuchon Hardware, Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, Conscious Possibilities, Charlie Burnham, Skowhegan Savings, Central Maine Power Company, Cub Scouts, Home Energy Evaluations, SKILLS Inc., Snakeroot Organic Farm.

“This event will teach us how to not only reduce our costs but also to reduce our use of our natural resources,” Ruth said.
