PALMYRA – Why Julie Henderson pulled out in front of an empty logging truck early Friday may never be known because she died on Sunday as a result of the head injuries she suffered in the crash.

“There was some early morning fog at the time of the crash, but it is not known why Henderson did not see the truck before she pulled out onto the highway,” state police spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a Friday statement.

“There is still no answer,” he said Monday, “and there may never be now.”

Henderson, 42, died at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

She reportedly pulled out of her driveway directly into the path of an oncoming unloaded pulp truck, which struck her driver’s side and pushed the vehicle off the road.

The driver of the truck attempted to get out of the way, but was unable to, Trooper Aaron Turcotte of the Maine State Police said.

The fatal crash was the second serious accident in a week’s time at the Ell Hill intersection of Routes 2 and 152, which historically has been an unsafe junction. Work on the roadway this summer was designed to improve the intersection’s safety, state officials have said.

Henderson’s death is the 121st highway death to occur on Maine roads so far this year, McCausland said.
