Small goal leads Caribou girls past Fort Kent

FORT KENT – Abby Small scored the winning goal with 24:35 left in the second half as Caribou edged Fort Kent 2-1 to avenged an opening-game loss.

Jenna Selander tied it at 1-1 in the second half for the Vikings. Brittany Doak and Morgan Swan combined to stop seven of 16 shots.

Taylor Boucher scored a first-half goal off a Michela Desjardins assist for Fort Kent. Carissa Pelletier saved 10 of 17 shots.

JV: Fort Kent 2-1

Katahdin 3, Lee Acad. 0

At Lee, Melissa Duffy scored two goals and added an assist as the Cougars of Stacyville earned the victory.

Brooke Livezey also scored for 4-5-1 Katahdin, while Mary Jo Robinson contributed an assist.

Jade Clippinger made seven saves on 13 shots for Katahdin.

Felicia Thornton made nine saves on 12 shots for 2-4 Lee.

Presque Isle 9, Central 0

At Corinth, Chelsea Nickerson and Kayla Legassie each recorded a hat trick as the Wildcats improved to 8-1.

Jenna Stephenson scored two goals while Brittany Bearden added another goal for Presque Isle. Kelsey Parks had six saves on six shots.

Shari Shina saved 10 of 22 shots for 1-8 Central.

Lawrence 4, Nokomis 0

At Newport, Courtney Langley scored all four goals and Jess Poulin made 14 saves as Lawrence of Fairfield improved to 5-3.

Laura Lyford made 15 saves for 0-8 Nokomis.

Waterville 2, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Jordan Pellerin scored both goals as Waterville shut out Brewer.

Paige Gardiner had an assist for 8-0 Waterville. Taylor Hart did not make a save on four shots.

Mel Judkins saved 25 of 27 shots for 1-7 Brewer.

JV: Waterville 8-0

Washington Acad. 7, Shead 1

At East Machias, Irene Lewey, Andi Flannery and Kristen Fabri scored two goals apiece as Washington Academy defeated Shead of Eastport.

Bri Nicely had a goal and an assist for the Raiders. Brandilyn Hodgdon and Jesse Hardy provided assists. Hardy and Courtney Radeka combined for five saves on six shots.

Kirby McPhail scored a second-half goal for the Tigerettes. Cassandra Stanhope turned away four of 18 shots.

George Stevens 3, Bucksport 2

At Bucksport, Sarah Brown broke the 2-2 tie with 1:27 remaining in regulation to give George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill the win over Bucksport.

Alida Peake and Doran Curtin scored first-half goals for the 8-1 Eagles. Hannah Van der Eb made seven saves on nine shots.

India Stewart scored the tying goal with 10:56 left in the second half off a Kayli Trasko assist for 0-7-1 Bucksport. Mindi Pye scored in the second half with an assist from Chelsea Fogg assist. Carrie Daigle stopped nine of 12 shots.

Medomak Valley 3, Rockland 2

At Rockland, Maia Snow scored a pair of goals and assisted on Nicole Weaver’s goal as Medomak Valley of Waldoboro improved to 7-1.

Rachel Keefe made 16 saves on 26 shots.

Baillie Boggs and Ali Curtis scored for 4-4-1 Rockland with Novelle Szandzik and Cassie Elwell picking up assists. Natalie Russell made 15 saves on 29 shots.

Woodland 4, Narraguagus 1

At Baileyville, Molly White scored two goals and Julia Nicholas added a goal and an assist as the Dragons defeated their Downeast Athletic Conference rival.

Hope Howard also scored for 5-3-1 Woodland, while Cassidy Beach, Holly Bergin and Kacie Burke contributed assists.

Taylor Cochran made three saves on five shots for Woodland.

Samantha Baker made nine saves on 17 shots for 0-7-1 Narraguagus of

Harrington.

Boys soccer

Messalonskee 2, Hampden 2

At Oakland, Jeremiah Dumais scored with 4:54 remaining in regulation to enable Messalonskee to tie Hampden Academy.

Cameron Omsberg had the other goal for 6-1-2 Messalonskee and Andrew Wilson made eight saves on 14 shots.

Corey Grover and Kevin Angelinetta scored for 5-3-1 Hampden Academy. Austin Michaud had an assist and Harrison Haiden made six saves on nine shots.

JV: Hampden 2-1

Brewer 3, Waterville 1

At Waterville, Luke Thomas had a hat trick as Brewer avenged an earlier loss to Waterville.

Waterville shut out Brewer 4-0 on Sept. 5 in Brewer.

Brad Billings, Ryan Nadeau and Tyler Bessette provided assists for the 3-4-1 Witches. Brian Kearns saved seven of 10 shots.

Abu Mannocchi scored for 6-3 Waterville. Nick Lee stopped five of 11 shots.

JV: Waterville 4-2

Calvary Chapel 0, Greenville 0

At University College of Bangor, Devon Warman of Calvary Chapel and Greenville’s Alex Jardine didn’t allow a goal through regulation and two overtimes.

Warman stopped 14 of 17 shots for 3-3-1 Calvary Chapel of Orrington.

Jardine turned away 11 of 12 shots for 4-1-2 Greenville.

Penobscot Valley 5, Sumner 1

At East Sullivan, Derrick Jones scored two goals as Penobscot Valley of Howland beat Sumner.

Leigh Dolley, Joe Brown and Ryan Ciopino also scored for the Howlers. Derrick Bellevance provided two assists. Jacob Jones turned away four of seven shots.

Joey Malloy scored a second-half goal off an Anthony Cultrera assist for Sumner. Josh Ring and Mike Crowley combined for 22 saves on 33 shots.

Highview 3, Chop Point 2 (2OT)

At Charleston, Stefan Rowe tucked a low 25-yarder inside the far post 1:16 into the second overtime as Highview Christian improved to 5-2.

Nathan Chandler and Cody Crocker had the other goals and Rowe also had an assist. Rowe made six saves in the first half and Wesley Jones made four in the second half and the overtimes.

Kalvin O’Donnell had a goal and an assist for 1-5 Chop Point of Woolwich and Jean Dujoncquy had the other goal. Daniel Wiener had an assist.

Michael Princiotta made 25 saves on 38 shots for Chop Point.

Field hockey

Winslow 2, Belfast 1 (2OT)

At Belfast, Elise Theriault scored the winner 2:18 into the second overtime to push Winslow past Belfast.

Morgan Stuart scored off a Christine Parrilli assist in the second half for 6-2 Winslow. Emma Walters stopped nine of 10 shots.

Sam Marston scored with an assist from Ori Downs for 6-2 Belfast. Paxton Mohney turned away 11 of 13 shots.
