SOMERSET, Mass. – Former Bangor American Legion baseball star Josh Pressley has been named the independent Atlantic League player of the year for 2008.

The 28-year-old first baseman and designated hitter won the minor league’s batting title with a .354 average and also led the A.L. with 173 hits, an on-base percentage of .440, and a .605 slugging percentage. He had finished with 101 RBIs and was a league all-star selection and the winner of the all-star home run hitting contest.
