CANDIDATE PROFILE

Senate District 34

Houlton-Presque Isle area

Republican

Roger Sherman

Age: 67

Hometown: Hodgdon

Address: 234 Hodgdon Mills Road

Education: B.S. Ricker College; MsT, University of New Hampshire; JD, University of Maine Law School

Family: Married to Patricia Sherman; four children: Brad, Greg, Eric, Michelle

Occupation: Retired teacher and part-time farmer

Experience: Practiced law in southern Maine, farmed with father for 20 years and taught school for 30 years; NEA director in Maine for three years; MEA board of directors for eight years; Maine House of Representatives for eight years; state Senate for two years.

Reason for running: I am running again because this state needs to deal with serious issues in the rural areas that I represent: the unfair impact of forced school consolidation, high fees, more regulations, and hidden taxes; a proposed new LURC zoning plan for the Unorganized Territory from which people earn a living. All are issues that I have been working on in Augusta and would ask to be allowed to continue that task.

Democrat

Jackie Lundeen

Age: 64

Hometown: Mars Hill

Address: P.O. Box 471

Education: K-12 and a few courses at the community college in Presque Isle

Family: Married, three children

Occupation: Retired after 40 years of farming

Experience: Eight years as a representative in Augusta; six years on the school board; eight years as Democratic chairwoman

Reason for running: I like people and would like to make a difference in Augusta. I want to make sure Aroostook County has a voice in Augusta. I would like to put my eight years of experience to use. Augusta needs my common sense and 40 years of business experience.
