Bangor man arrested on drug charge

A Bangor man who recently sold drugs to undercover agents of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was seen walking down a Bangor street on Tuesday and arrested by Bangor police.

Walter Wilhelm II, 53, who lists his address as the Bangor Homeless Shelter, was part of an MDEA sting operation to round up Bangor-area drug dealers, according to Garry Higgins, supervisory special agent for the Bangor-based North Central Regional Taskforce, District 5. The sting resulted in the arrest of 17 others in mid- to late September, Higgins said Thursday.

“We just couldn’t find him at the time,” Higgins said. “We purchased pills” from Wilhelm during controlled buys. “We finally tracked him down walking down the streets of Bangor and were assisted by Bangor PD” officers who stopped him for the MDEA.

Wilhelm reportedly recently sold Ritalin to undercover agents. He was charged with trafficking in Schedule D drugs and taken to Penobscot County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000. Wilhelm remained in jail on Thursday. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
