PORTLAND – A Maine soldier preparing to deploy to Iraq was injured Thursday in a hit-and-run accident while jogging in North Yarmouth, according to police.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said a driver came upon the injured soldier, dialed 911 and administered first aid. The department said the soldier was taken to the Maine Medical Center, where his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Officials are seeking anyone who might have seen something. They said the soldier was hit from behind at 6 a.m. Thursday on Route 231, known as New Gloucester Road. The soldier was due to leave Friday for his deployment.
